TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Atomic Energy Council received Taipower’s Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant Unit 2 restart application on Sunday (Dec. 1) following its 28th overhaul, per a press release.
The council said it will review the application and conduct plant inspections from Dec. 1-5, per CNA.
“The unit will only be allowed to start operation after confirming that the on-site conditions meet the startup requirements,” it explained.
Located in Hengchun, Pingtung County, Maanshan is Taiwan’s only operating nuclear power plant, per Liberty Times. Unit 1 was shut down at the end of July when its operating license expired.
Unit 2 began a 41-day overhaul on Oct. 21, including equipment maintenance and reactor core fuel replacement.
