TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – South Korean artist Kim Kwan-Young’s (金官泳) first solo exhibition in Taiwan, “Just go with the flow,” is on display at the Lightwell Zhongshan flagship store until Dec. 29.
Deeply influenced by his personal experiences, Kim’s art reflects life’s impermanence. The loss of his father had a profound impact on him, shaping his artistic perspective, said Kim.
Through layers of texture and subdued colors, he conveys his emotions and thoughts about life’s transience. This exhibition is not just a retrospective, but an exploration of life's meaning.
Through his unique abstract painting style, the artist invites viewers into a world filled with emotion and memory, reflecting changes, growth, and introspection of his personal life.
Kim’s works are renowned for their rich color palette and innovative use of space. He skillfully employs contrasting colors and complementary colors, such as light yellow and blue, to symbolize the complexities of life.
The strategic use of negative space creates a sense of depth and invites viewers to contemplate the artwork's underlying messages.
Kim’s art also delves into memory and emotion. His creative process is a form of introspection using the canvas to express his inner thoughts and feelings.
The seemingly random strokes and color patches are imbued with profound emotions, inviting viewers to connect with their inner world.
Curated by BBillion art co., the exhibition theme, “Just go with the flow,” encapsulates Kim’s artistic philosophy. He encourages viewers to let go of expectations and immerse themselves in the flow of colors and forms.
Color, for Kim, is a powerful tool for conveying emotion. By carefully selecting and combining colors, he evokes a wide range of feelings, from warmth to coldness, from vitality to tranquility. His mastery of color creates visually striking and emotionally resonant works.
In this exhibition, Kim continues experimenting with new color palettes and styles, pushing the boundaries of abstract art. He said that artists should constantly explore and evolve, avoiding stylistic stagnation.
“The symbolism and spatial elements in my works aim to stimulate viewers’ imagination and evoke deeper meanings,” said Kim.
