TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) praised Taiwan’s achievements in the service industry on Wednesday (Dec. 4).
Hsiao attended the nation’s customer service awards ceremony at the Taipei International Convention Center. She said franchise chains can compete against the growing dominance of online shopping, per CNA.
“The number of young consumers is decreasing due to declining birth rates and an aging population,” Hsiao said. “In response to ESG goals and net-zero carbon emissions, the service industry must transform its business models.”
Hsiao also emphasized the service industry's importance to Taiwan's economy. According to the economics ministry, Taiwan's service industry output value exceeded NT$13 trillion (US$419.35 billion) in 2022.
Hsiao said that AI cannot replace every job because humans possess the warmth that AI lacks. The service industry can enhance sales by utilizing AI to analyze customer needs and preferences.
Hsiao added that Taiwan has many 24-hour stores, making life more convenient. Taiwan's service quality has earned worldwide recognition.
