TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung's Christmas carnival will kick off on Dec. 13, featuring a theme inspired by the Disney animated film Monsters, Inc.
The highlight is a 16-meter-tall furry Christmas tree. It will be adorned with Mike Wazowski sporting reindeer antlers and Boo in a monster costume, per Taichung City Government.
The event incorporates Taichung's local desserts and unique themed light installations. Light-up Monsters, Inc. characters will be displayed from Taichung’s old railway station to the Liuchuan Canal.
The railway station will host a market with 41 stalls daily and 123 rotating vendors, offering handmade goods, floral items, and food. The market will be open from Dec. 13 to Jan. 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends.
Cultural performances will be held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening. They will feature bubble shows, ventriloquism magic, clown juggling, interactive magic, and diabolo performances.
A main light show at Liuchuan will combine lighting effects and the river to create an immersive cinematic experience. The light show will run from Dec. 13 to Jan. 1, with performances every half hour from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily.
