TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Medical staff from Taichung Veterans General Hospital and Hong Ren Hospital traveled to Cambodia’s Battambang Province to provide medical services last month.
Taichung Veterans General Hospital International Medical Service Center Director Wang Chung-chi (王仲祺) said Nov. 30 the medical team included surgeons, physicians, dentists, pharmacists, and nurses. The team served nearly 2,000 individuals over two days, from Nov. 9-11, per CNA.
According to Hsu Chung-ting (徐仲庭), a pediatrician at Taichung Veterans General Hospital, malnutrition is a common issue in Battambang. Limited medical resources and wealth inequality prevent individuals from receiving timely treatments.
After the medical mission, the team visited Battambang and Phnom Penh healthcare facilities. “The local medical equipment and healthcare quality have significant room for improvement,” Wang commented.
Wang added the mission showcased Taiwan's strength in healthcare. It also showed Taiwan can help improve Cambodia’s healthcare.
