TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said Sunday the government will encourage schools and textbook publishers to incorporate AI technology into digital textbook design.
Cho attended this year’s International Digital Textbook Forum at the Evergreen International Convention Center in Taipei. The forum featured integrating AI technology into curriculum and digital textbook design.
According to CNA, more than 300 teachers, scholars, and textbook publishers worldwide participated.
“Education systems must evolve by upgrading software, such as digital learning platforms, and hardware, including smart classroom devices,” Cho said. “I believe the nation is capable of achieving this goal.”
According to Cho, the government launched TAIDE, Taiwan's first AI chatbot in April 2023. The model has been tested in schools to enhance students’ writing, aid translation, and expand digital learning access.
President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) aims to make Taiwan an AI technology hub and wants to cultivate 400,000 AI and digital talents by 2028, per RTI.
Taiwan Textbook Publishers Association Chair Chen Yen-liang (陳彥良) said the group has long supported teachers in using technology to improve teaching. He added that digital textbooks will increase student engagement and learning.
