TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — National Taiwan University ranks 74th globally and fourth in Asia, according to Quacquarelli Symonds World University Sustainability Rankings released Tuesday.
The organization said the rankings evaluated nearly 1,800 universities worldwide on their performance in addressing environmental, social, and governance challenges, per CNA.
According to Ben Sowter, QS Senior Vice President, Taiwanese universities performed well in the indicator of "environmental education" and "employability and outcomes." However, there is room for improvement in "equality," "environmental research," and “health and wellbeing.”
Sowter said six Asian universities made it into the world's top 100. The University of Tokyo ranks highest, placing 44th globally.
He added despite having 114 universities in the rankings, China had no institutions in the world's top 100.
The ranking places Canada's University of Toronto at the top, followed by ETH Zurich in Switzerland. The University of California, Berkeley, and Lund University in Sweden share third place.
