TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan developer Gametropy’s Do You Really Want to Know 2 won Apple’s App Store Award, the company said Wednesday (Dec. 11).
According to a press release, the app explores HIV stigma and provides educational materials for family and friends. Players assume the role of “Nick” and interact with those around him through texts and posts.
Gametropy Cofounder Wu Shao-chen (吳少辰) said the team has always been looking for new ways to use games to advocate issues, per CNA. People who are not familiar with HIV issues can better understand how testing works in real life, he added.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said he was thrilled to honor developers who have harnessed Apple technology to enrich the lives of others. “The remarkable achievements of this year’s winners demonstrate the incredible ingenuity that can be unlocked through apps,” he added.
Apple explained that this year’s recipients were selected from 45 finalists. They were chosen for showcasing the highest standards of user experience, design, and innovation, the company said.
Additionally, the iPhone Game of the Year was AFK Journey, a role-playing game offering tactical adventures and rich storytelling. Apple Vision Pro App of the Year went to What If...? An Immersive Story, where users travel through Marvel’s Multiverse and fight alongside heroes.
