TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Chinese Professional Baseball League said Thursday that Chu Yu-hsien (朱育賢) has been transferred from Rakuten Monkeys to Wei Chuan Dragons.
Rakuten Monkeys selected the 33-year-old infielder in the 2015 CPBL mid-season draft’s seventh round, per CNA. Since entering professional baseball, he has hit double-digit home runs every year.
Rakuten Monkeys can choose between an NT$11.25 million (US$345,000) transfer fee or NT$6.75 million and one player outside the 25-man protected list, per Liberty Times. Wei Chuan Dragons said the list has been submitted to the league.
Wei Chuan Dragons added that Chu’s contract is four years, valued at NT$48 million including incentives.
33-year-old Chu is versatile in infield and outfield positions, consistently delivering power hits. He has increased his market value with 169 home runs in the CPBL, making him the second-highest left-handed hitter in history, behind Lin Yi-chuan’s (林益全) 210 and ahead of Chang Chih-hao’s (張志豪) 179.
