TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A man in Kaohsiung was arrested and charged with public obscenity, police said Tuesday.
Police received a report around 5 p.m. Saturday about a man performing indecent acts on Yancheng District’s Poyu Road. Authorities arrived at the scene and stopped the 33-year-old man surnamed Peng (彭), per CNA.
Peng was taken into custody and faces charges of public obscenity. The case has been forwarded to the prosecutor's office for further investigation.
Under Article 234 of the Criminal Code, individuals who “for purpose of exhibition publicly commit an obscene act” can face imprisonment for less than a year, short-term imprisonment, or a fine of up to NT$9,000 (US$277). The Yancheng Precinct urged citizens to avoid behavior that violates public decency or face legal consequences.
