TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — After an individual was reported to have fallen onto the train tracks at Banqiao’s Fuzhou Station on Friday, no one was found after a three-hour search.
The individual is suspected to be a male passenger who fell onto the tracks at 5:51 p.m. as the Tze-Chiang Limited Express Train No. 176 passed through the station. It was initially suspected the passenger had been struck by the train, per CNA and Yahoo news.
The train was halted, causing significant delays. Police and firefighters searched but were unable to locate the man.
The train showed no signs of collision. There were no blood splatters on the tracks or platform.
The train was cleared to depart at 8:29 p.m. Two-way rail traffic was resumed.
Surveillance footage revealed the man had crossed the tracks, climbed a platform wall, and left the scene. Police are expanding their review of nearby surveillance footage to identify the individual.
The case will be referred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation on suspicion of offenses against public safety.
