TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Dome events have benefited the surrounding business area, as the tourism department estimated Jay Chou’s (周杰倫) concerts alone generated NT$1.7 billion (US$52 million).
Jay Chou's Carnival World Tour attracted 150,000 visitors over four days. Businesses in Taipei Dome and nearby areas saw sales revenues increase by at least five times.
A pet supply store sales representative at Taipei Dome said the concerts increased the number of visitors by 60 to 70%.

A Taipei City Office of Commerce survey found that people at Jay Chou's concerts spent an average of NT$11,475. Excluding ticket price, average personal expenditures were NT$6,915.
Concertgoers also helped the tourism and accommodation industry. The sector’s December performance increased by 30% compared to last year.
Municipal officials have communicated with Tokyo Dome on ways to maximize Taipei Dome's potential. The Tokyo Dome Planning Department visited Taipei in November and was reportedly impressed by the dome's barrier-free facilities and the number of women's toilets, per PTS.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) visited the Tokyo Dome in May, and Tokyo Dome sent personnel to an event in November. The two sides have had exchanges on safety and evacuation measures, and vibration inside the facility.
"We believe that Japan, with more than 30 years of experience, can tell us if there is anything we have missed and provide suggestions. Substantial cooperation and plans for exchange are already underway," Chiang said.
The city government expects Taipei Dome to host more activities to attract larger crowds and business opportunities. Officials are also working on a “sister dome” agreement with Tokyo Dome for annual visits by both parties.
