TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei hosted its first Christmas Marathon Relay Race early Sunday morning.
The first marathon relay organized as part of the city’s holiday celebrations drew thousands of participants to Civic Square in Banqiao, reported CNA. Many runners wore Santa hats as they ran.
The relay was divided into five divisions, with over 400 teams for the 28-kilometer relay race, which kicked off at 6:30 a.m. Participants were gifted a little branch of a Christmas tree with tiny copper bells attached, filling the streets with jingle bell sounds.
The Christmas relay is just one exciting event of New Taipei’s Christmasland festivities, themed “Magic City” for 2024. In addition to the spectacular light show, which debuted in November, the city has organized musical concerts each day leading up to Christmas.
New Taipei welcomes the public to enjoy the beautiful Christmasland display, musical performances, and stands selling tasty treats and holiday goods. The light display will run daily from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. through Jan. 1.
