TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Squid Game Season 2 promotion in Kaohsiung on Saturday attracted 110,000 people to the harbor to see a giant Young-hee character based on the series.
After a brief countdown, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) pressed a button, lighting the big inflatable. Many in the audience wore the signature green and white athletic suits and pink jumpsuits associated with guards from the popular South Korean series, per CNA.
Chen said he was honored that Kaohsiung was chosen as one location for the Squid Game's global promotion. He said the event was also an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Kaohsiung and the city's citizens.

Chen also played some of the Squid Game themes, saying he was a “recruiter” for the game. He hoped the series would rise to No. 1 on Netflix.
A 10-minute drone followed the lighting ceremony. One of the first images in the sky was Young-hee with the doll’s signature actions, such as turning her head and lighting up her eyes.
The drones were choreographed to music and mimicked signature symbols, such as the number "456" worn by the lead character and a giant piggy bank.
The Squid Game Season 2 promotion attracted a large crowd and caused traffic jams in the surrounding area. The new series begins Thursday, with the inflatable Young-hee doll on display until Jan. 5.
