TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Railway Corporation said Tuesday it will add 302 extra trains during the Lunar New Year holiday from Jan. 23 to Feb. 3.
The corporation said ticket reservations for express trains with reserved seats on the eastern main line, including the north and south coastal lines, will open Thursday. Reservations for the western main line will open Friday, CNA reported.
According to Taiwan Railway, the additional trains include 20 EMU3000 Tze-Chiang Limited Express trains between Changhua, Taipei, and Hualien, 14 Puyuma Express direct trains between Nangang and Changhua, eight EMU3000 Tze-Chiang trains between Qidu and Chaozhou, eight EMU3000 Tze-Chiang trains between Qidu and Changhua, 18 EMU900 local express trains between Qidu and Fengshan, and 18 EMU900 local express trains between Hukou, Taipei, and Taitung.
Taiwan Railways will implement real-name reservations for certain eastern line trains during long weekends and the Lunar New Year holiday. It said that real-name ticket reservations for express trains with reserved seats on the eastern main line will be available on Friday to residents of Hualien and Taitung, as well as individuals whose National ID numbers begin with "U" or "V," along with their spouses, parents, and children.
Taiwan High Speed Rail also announced Tuesday that 368 additional trains will run during the Spring Festival, with 200 southbound and 168 northbound services. It said that ticket reservations will open on Thursday.
THSR added that trains during the Lunar New Year period will include two to eight cars for non-reserved seats.
