TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A missing monk parrot flew into Tainan’s Annan District Third Police Precinct and landed on an on-duty police officer's shoulder.
The monk parrot reportedly flew out of a residential apartment in Tainan on Friday. The police officer noticed a leg band on the parrot, which had contact information for the bird’s owner, surnamed Chang (張), per CNA.
A press release said that the parrot flew in while officer Huang Guan-lin (黃冠霖) was on duty. The parrot was seeking the officer’s help to notify its owner, and Huang spent his own money to buy seeds to calm the parrot.

Chang rushed to the police station to collect her missing parrot named A-jiu (阿舊). She had raised the parrot for more than 10 years before its disappearance.
She told police she felt lost and anxious when the parrot went missing. She expressed gratitude to the police for helping her recover her beloved pet.
The Annan District Third Precinct has helped lost pets find their owners. Earlier this month, citizens brought a lost Shiba Inu dog to the precinct, where officers fed the dog and tried to find the owner through a Facebook page, per Hakka News.

Officers worried the Facebook message was not attracting enough attention, then the dog pleaded with police officer Fu Shuo-jun (傅說軍) to take it for a walk. The dog led the officer down an alley on Anchung Road where its owner was awaiting its return.
Police reminded people to microchip their cats and dogs for easy identification. Bird owners should ensure leg bands are worn.
