TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A 61-year-old woman was injured in a knife attack Thursday morning outside New Taipei's Xindian metro station.
Police arrested a 67-year-old man surnamed Liu (劉) at the scene. Liu allegedly attacked the woman surnamed Kao (高) after a dispute, per CNA.
Investigators said the two were sitting on a bench when Kao asked Liu for NT$10 (US$0.31). Liu's rejection prompted an argument, according to LTN.
Liu then pulled a folding knife from his pocket and stabbed Kao. She sustained two one-centimeter wounds to her back and was transported to Cardinal Tien Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
Police recovered a folding knife, believed to be the weapon, in a nearby restroom. Liu, who appeared intoxicated at the time of his arrest, remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Taipei Metro will proceed in accordance with Article 50-1 of the Mass Rapid Transit Act. It prohibits carrying “hazardous or flammable” materials into metro routes, depots, stations, or vehicles without authorization.
Violators may face fines ranging from NT$10,000 to NT$1 million.
