TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Oman reported Thursday that a Taiwan tech delegation had visited the country.
Starting on Dec. 15, the six-day tour covered meetings with senior officials from Oman’s transportation ministry, per CNA. They visited Oman’s largest Arabic media outlet Al Roya and the University of Nizwa.
Omani officials commented that Muscat is planning a comprehensive 3+7 year semiconductor program. They said they hope for assistance and investment from Taiwan’s industry and academia.
Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Oman Deputy Counselor Chu Chun-yi (朱俊儀) said Oman has proposed Oman Vision 2040 to diversify its economy, per CNA. The plan focuses on developing high-tech industries including semiconductors and AI.
Oman Investment Authority said the country’s sovereign investment fund is as high as NT$1.64 trillion (US$50 billion), and it is willing to cooperate with Taiwan.
Chu said the visit not only shows off Taiwan’s semiconductor technology prowess but also establishes Taiwan as an important base for international talent exchange and cultivation.
