TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred in southwest Taiwan at 3:51.a.m. on Monday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
As of publication, no injuries or damage from the earthquake were reported. Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7 to gauge the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
The quake’s intensity registered a 4 in Chiayi County, Yunlin County, Nantou County, and Chiayi. A level 3 intensity was reported in Tainan, Taichung, and Changhua County.
An intensity level 2 was measured in Kaohsiung, Taitung County, Hualien County, Miaoli County, and Penghu County. A level 1 intensity was recorded in Pingtung County, Yilan County, and Hsinchu County.
The CWA said its epicenter was 41.8 km east-northeast of Chiayi County Hall with a 12.3 km focal depth.
