TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan's telecom companies are ready for a surge in network demand on New Year's Eve, CNA reported on Friday.
Internet usage typically increases as New Year's Eve progresses, peaking during the countdown to midnight. Chunghwa Telecom estimated that mobile data usage is expected to reach a record high during this New Year's.
Chunghwa Telecom and Far EasTone will install 600 to 1,000 additional 4G and 5G base stations, respectively, at New Year's Eve event locations across Taiwan. The companies will also mobilize nearly 2,000 engineers and deploy more than 60 mobile communication vehicles.
This year, Chunghwa Telecom will collaborate with Ericsson to introduce Ericsson Site Digital Twin (ESDT), a digital replica of a physical telecom base station, to enhance network stability. The company will also deploy Nokia's AirScale Radio base stations to ensure 5G network download speeds of up to 2.34 Gbps.
Taiwan Mobile said it will deploy 1,000 engineers and 50 mobile communication vehicles on New Year's Eve to meet network demand.
FarEasTone added it will install 2,300 5G base stations nationwide using the 2600MHz TDD band by December to enhance indoor signal and network capacity.
