TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The environment ministry said on Monday that pollutants from China are expected to affect Taiwan's air quality from Tuesday to Wednesday morning.
Haze was reported from Shanghai to the Shandong Peninsula in China on Monday. With the northeast monsoon expected to strengthen on Tuesday, pollutants are forecast to elevate PM2.5 levels in Taiwan, per CNA.
According to the Taiwan Air Quality Monitoring Network, air quality alerts on Tuesday show yellow in northern and central Taiwan, orange in the south, and red in Kinmen and Matsu. These conditions pose health risks to vulnerable groups and individuals with respiratory issues.
The ministry said this condition is expected to continue until Wednesday morning. By Wednesday afternoon, air quality in central and northern Taiwan is expected to improve, while residents in the south are urged to remain cautious.
The ministry said relevant government agencies have directed large factories and construction sites to enhance air pollution control measures. It said that local governments will intensify inspections of diesel and older vehicles.
The ministry reminded individuals to wear masks and use public transportation during periods of poor air quality.
