TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Presidential Office announced its New Year’s Day events and revealed the 2025 red envelope design on Monday.
Secretary-General Pan Men-an (潘孟安) said Lai Ching-te (賴清德) will deliver a New Year’s address following the flag-raising ceremony and hand out spring couplets, red envelopes, and limited-edition commemorative treats.
Spring couplets and red envelopes will be available during open house events at the Presidential Office from Jan. 1-24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Day, and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the following weekdays.
Pan said the gifts would also be offered at regional service centers around Taiwan and the outlying islands of Kinmen and Matsu. Gift bags will be distributed during Lai and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim's (蕭美琴) visits to temples during the Lunar New Year holiday, he added.
The office will be open to the public and feature exhibitions, markets, and other activities to encourage nationwide participation.
Lee Ming-dao (李明道), the designer of the red envelopes and greeting cards, explained that the hand-drawn dogs and cats symbolized the president and vice president’s affinity for the animals. The concentric circles and radiating patterns symbolize focus, vision, peace, and unity.
Additionally, the native Taiwanese plants featured on the spring couplets and gift bags, such as the ivory persimmon, shell ginger, and sea hibiscus, reflect Taiwan's biodiversity and harmony with nature.
