TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Eva Air apologized to customers aboard a flight from Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport to Taoyuan International Airport on Sunday after their flight was delayed by 24 hours.
Eva Air flight No. 115 was originally scheduled to take off from Sapporo on Saturday at 3:20 p.m., however, mechanical issues delayed departure. Over 100 passengers on the flight had to deboard almost an hour after boarding, reported CNA.
Airline staff gave passengers drinks and snacks while they waited for updates. Because the food court at New Chitose Airport closed at 4 p.m., a convenience store was the only other option for food.
Around 9 p.m., they were informed that the flight would not be able to take off until the next day. While the airline worked to secure a replacement part for the airplane, passengers were provided with accommodation at a nearby hotel about 30 minutes away, per CNA.
Although minor delays were reported with several shuttle buses transporting passengers back to the airport, the flight was able to depart on Sunday afternoon.
According to FlightAware, the flight departed Sapporo at 3:48 p.m. Japan time and arrived safely at Taoyuan International at 7:22 p.m. Taiwan time. Eva Air said it was deeply sorry for the inconvenience to passengers.
