TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Malaysian state Selangor established a semiconductor task force on Tuesday, hoping to attract Taiwan’s experts in the industry.
Selangor State Executive Councilor for Investment, Trade, and Mobility Ng Sze Han said Selangor plans to develop four IC design parks within the next five years, aiming to attract 25-30 semiconductor companies, per CNA. He said the state seeks to create a complete chip supply chain.
A major industrial hub, Selangor was Malaysia’s largest contributor to economic growth in 2023. The West Malaysian state led in investments at NT$487 billion (US$14.8 billion) from January to September last year.
Ng said he expects the plan to generate approximately NT$700 billion in cumulative revenue and NT$227 billion in potential income over five years. Furthermore, the task force is set to meet four times annually to discuss supply chain and talent development.
In December, Ng led a delegation to Taiwan to promote business exchanges. He met with the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Taipei and several Taiwanese startups.
Taiwan was Malaysia’s fifth-largest trading partner and 12th-largest exporter in 2024, per RTI. Major investments include electronics and chemical products.
