TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei City Office of Commerce said on Tuesday that the city’s Lunar New Year market is expected to open from Jan. 11 to 27 on Dihua Street.
Taipei Deputy Mayor Lin Yi-hua (林奕華) attended Tuesday’s press conference and said the market would celebrate its 30th anniversary. The event will collaborate with more than 100 shops in Taipei to offer discounts to visitors, per CNA.
The city government will launch its first no-smoking Lunar New Year market. Relevant city agencies will conduct inspections and crack down on violations to ensure a clean environment for visitors.
The office said the free shuttle bus service will continue this year, with routes covering Dihua Street, MRT Beimen Station, and Taipei Underground Mall. Shuttle bus passengers with 3 and 0 in their ID numbers have a chance to receive “lucky money.”
The city government also partnered with artist Wu Chi (吳騏) to design five giant puppets displayed along Dihua Street. The puppets showcase Dadaocheng's features, including a fabric flower snake, a traditional Taiwanese cake, a teapot, and a gold ingot-shaped mushroom.
The office said a game with prize money will be held at Yongle Plaza. Visitors can participate in DIY activities at the plaza, such as paper cutting, writing spring couplets, and painting red envelopes.
The office added the city government will team up with e-commerce company Momo to launch an online Lunar New Year market, featuring live-streamed auctions of festival goods.
