TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The National Science and Technology Council opened a tech pavilion featuring 72 Taiwanese startups on Wednesday at CES in Las Vegas.
The startups comprise the Taiwan Tech Arena, a business incubator established by the NSTC in 2018, per CNA. This year marks the eighth time the NSTC led the delegation.
This year, startups make up nearly one-third of CES’s attendees, providing a platform for international teams to interact globally. The world’s largest electronics show has attracted over 4,000 manufacturers from 150 countries.
NSTC Department of Academia-Industry Collaboration and Science Park Affairs Director General Andrea Hsu (許增如) said in her opening speech that the startups cover six main fields: AI, digital health, smart cities, sustainability, vehicles, and advanced mobility.
Hsu said that Taiwan is the most reliable global partner in AI. She hoped like-minded talent and companies would join Taiwan in realizing an AI-led vision.
Taiwan has made steady headway into AI. In his inaugural speech on May 20, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) said Taiwan must adapt its industry and become an “AI island.”
In October, Nvidia announced that Foxconn would build Taiwan’s fastest AI supercomputer powered by its GB200 NVL72 platform. The company plans to use the computer for cancer research and large language model development.
