TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) expressed his desire to further enhance Taiwan-US relations during talks with US-Taiwan Business Council President Rupert Hammond-Chambers on Thursday.
Lin reflected on the achievements of the past year, pointing to the first agreement under the US-Taiwan Initiative on 21st Century Trade and the renewal of a US-Taiwan Economic Prosperity Partnership Dialogue MOU. Both sides agreed to extend it for another five years to continue the momentum in bilateral economic and trade cooperation, Lin said.
The foreign minister hoped USTBC would keep advocating for Taiwan and help facilitate signing a double tax avoidance agreement. Resolving this matter would create a win-win situation for Taiwan and the US, he said.
Taiwan remains steadfast as a partner in the democratic supply chain, during this time of global restructuring, Lin said. Through trade, investment, and other means, Taiwan aims to strengthen partnerships with the US and other democracies, enhancing supply chain resilience while promoting regional security and stability, he said.
Hammond-Chambers is leading a delegation in Taiwan. The group met with Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) on Tuesday, who highlighted significant progress in Taiwan-US relations.
