TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A cold front prompted the Central Weather Administration on Friday to issue cold advisories in 13 counties and cities as snow is likely in mountainous areas.
The CWA said many flat areas in Taiwan recorded temperatures below 10 C on Friday morning. The lowest was 7.9 C in New Taipei's Shiding District, followed by 8.3 C in Miaoli County's Dahe Village, 8.5 C in New Taipei's Wugu District, and 8.7 C in New Taipei's Fugui Cape.
During the day, the CWA predicts highs in the north will reach 12 to 14 C and 17 to 21 C in eastern, central, and southern Taiwan.
The CWA has issued an orange cold advisory for New Taipei, Keelung, Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu County, and Yilan County, for temperatures around 10 C. A yellow cold advisory has been issued for Miaoli County, Taichung, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, and Kinmen County, with the chance of temperatures below 10 C.
The weather bureau forecasts that the north, east, Hengchun Peninsula, flat areas of the south, and mountainous areas in the west could see showers. Other areas, including Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu will see sunny to partly cloudy skies.
There is a chance of snowfall in mountains above 2,000 m in the north and northeast and 2,500 m in central Taiwan.
