TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taiwan People's Party announced on Monday it will hold an election next month to decide on a new party leader.
In a party press release, the TPP said registration for candidates will be open this week from Tuesday at 9 a.m. until Friday at 6 p.m. Candidates must have joined the party on or before Feb. 14, 2024, and currently hold or have previously been a Central Committee member.
Voting will be conducted online on Feb. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
All applicable dues, shared fundraising amounts, and other relevant fees must be fully paid by Tuesday, the TPP said. Only individuals who have cleared these payments and are not suspended will be eligible to vote, run for election, or endorse candidates.
The office term for the new party chair will be from Feb. 19 until Dec. 31, 2026.
The official announcement for the election will follow party rules and regulations, it said.
Former TPP Chair Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) resigned on Jan. 1, with TPP Legislator Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) taking his place. Ko is currently facing corruption charges from his time as Taipei mayor.
