TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — TPASS 2.0 Frequent Rider Discounts Launch in February offering an up to 40% rebate for frequent mass transit riders.
To encourage greater use of public transportation, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications on Tuesday launched the TPASS 2.0 frequent rider discount program. Frequent rider benefits are available to those who use electronic tickets and take public transportation 11 or more times in a month, offering a percentage-based rebate on their travel costs, with the first rebate credited on March 25.
For public road transportation, including intercity buses, long-distance buses, and city buses, riders taking 11 to 30 trips per month will receive a 15% rebate. For those taking 31 or more trips, the rebate increases to 30%.
As for rail services, which already offer frequent rider discounts (such as Taiwan Railways Corporation, Taipei Metro, and New Taipei Metro), the MOTC will provide an additional 2% rebate for those taking 11 or more trips per month.
Travelers who obtain and register the TPASS 2.0 card before March 31 and meet the rebate criteria by the end of 2024 will receive an additional 10% rebate bonus, funded by the central government, bringing the maximum total rebates to 40%.
The transportation ministry said that riders can register for TPASS 2.0 starting Tuesday by visiting the highway bureau's frequent rider cashback webpage and completing the electronic ticket registration process. Starting in February, travel records will accrue from the day after registration is completed.
Each passenger can register up to five electronic stored value cards with each ticket company, with cashback calculated independently for each card. Riders can collect their rebate for the previous month starting on the 25th of the following month.
Beginning March 25, rebates for February can be collected at the four major convenience store counters with staff assistance or at Taipei Metro stations using EasyCard machines.
For those interested in purchasing a TPASS 2.0 card, it is available for pre-order through kiosks at the four major convenience stores or for purchase at metro station service counters or ticket vending machines.
