TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) said Thursday that an individual’s household registration has been revoked, while 12 others are under investigation to determine if they have Chinese identity cards, per CNA.
The announcement comes after Taiwanese Youtubers released a video that claimed the head of China’s United Front Office in Fujian is Taiwanese. The video claimed China provided benefits including identity documents to Taiwanese in exchange for producing pro-China content.
Liu did not say if the cancellation of the household registration was connected to the video.
However, after the video was released, National Immigration Agency Director Chung Ching-kun (鐘景琨) said that if it is found that Taiwanese have obtained passports in China their household registration in Taiwan will be canceled.
The agency’s Household Registration Department Director Chen Yung-chih (陳永智) followed up on the statement by saying that if an individual’s household registration is canceled, they will no longer be a citizen of Taiwan.
