TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Some single-story homes collapsed in Tainan's Nanxi District and work and classes have been canceled.
At 12:17.a.m. on Tuesday, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake occurred 37.9 km southeast of Chiayi County Hall in Dapu Township with a 9.7 km focal depth. Nanxi District, which is adjacent to Dapu Township, saw dozens of aftershocks following the quake, per CNA.
Tainan
Over 10 single-story houses collapsed in a residential area on Lane 157 on Minzu Road in Nanxi District. The Tainan City Fire Department assisted 11 people in evacuating and four were injured and sent to the hospital.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) visited NanXi District to speak with residents and assess the damage. Following his visit, he announced that work and classes in the district would be suspended for one day to allow residents time to clean up their homes.

Chiayi County
A landslide occurred on the main access road to Xixing Village in Dapu Township. About 50 residents are cut off from road transportation, but no injuries have been reported.
The Chiayi County Government said that due to the damage to the road and disruption to water and electricity supplies in the area, work and classes in Dapu Township have been suspended, per CNA.

Kaohsiung
The Highway Bureau said that at the 7K+500 mark of Provincial Highway 29 in Jiaxian District, Kaohsiung, scattered rockfalls have caused a road blockage. The road is expected to reopen for traffic at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
Taitung County
A landslide occurred early Tuesday morning on the Lidao section of the Southern Cross-Island Highway in Taitung County, causing a road blockage. Vehicles and pedestrians from Lidao Village heading toward Chulai currently cannot descend the mountain.
