TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A video on Tuesday showed an Indonesian caregiver embracing and shielding her elderly female patient when an earthquake struck southwest Taiwan.
At 12:17 a.m. Tuesday, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake with a 9.7 km focal depth occurred 37.9 km southeast of Chiayi County Hall. That afternoon, the granddaughter of an elderly woman posted camera footage to Threads showing their caregiver rushing to the grandmother's side to protect her until the earthquake stopped, per EBC News.
The woman wrote that the caregiver protected her grandmother as the quake began. She found the caregiver's actions to be “truly touching.”
In the video, the quake awoke her grandmother lying in bed. The caregiver immediately rushed to her bedside and held the grandmother tightly.
Even during a power outage, the two could be seen firmly embracing each other. The grandmother could also be seen patting the caregiver's shoulder to comfort her, demonstrating a close bond.
After the earthquake subsided, the caregiver got up to check the surroundings, and she could be seen patting her chest, still frightened by the experience. The video has gained over 100,000 likes, along with nearly 1,000 comments, 2,000 reposts, and 2,000 shares.
