TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan announced on Tuesday the Asia-Pacific International Baseball Training Centers' main baseball stadium is expected to be operational by the end of March.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) conducted an inspection tour of the stadium, noting its outfield seating has no blind spots. The facility passed earthquake and natural disaster tests and a simulated rainwater drainage test, per CNA.
Huang believes the stadium will provide baseball teams with a competitive playing field. Fans can also enjoy a high-quality viewing experience.

Huang noted 80 deficiencies that contractors must remedy before a second inspection. He said exhibition games would also provide information about improving the new stadium.
President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) initiated phase I of the baseball facility when he was Tainan mayor in 2019. The following year, phase II completed the main stadium and complementary indoor and outdoor facilities.
Tainan Public Works Bureau said the turf was installed in October last year. A simulated rainfall drainage test in December ensured the stadium could be drained within 30 minutes.
In January, the stadium’s locker room and player lounges were inspected for defects and improvements before spring training. The facility is expected to be cleared for use in baseball games before the end of March.
The Public Works Bureau said the total budget for the Asia-Pacific International Baseball Training Centers' turnkey project (Phase II) was NT$2.5 billion (NT$76.35 million), with a construction period of 1,848 days.
The main stadium associated with the Phase II project has 25,000 seats, while a secondary stadium has 3,000 seats. Indoor and outdoor batting and pitching training lanes, along with two infield training fields, were also completed.
