TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The World Economic Forum announced Wednesday that Taiwan High Speed Rail ranked fifth in the “Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations.”
THSR General Manager James Jeng (鄭光遠) said the company has remained in the top 10 sustainable companies for three consecutive years since its debut on the list in 2023. It also ranked first in the "transit and ground transportation group" and the "transportation infrastructure industry," per CNA.
Sustainability research organization Corporate Knights ranks the world’s most sustainable corporations annually at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland. This year, it evaluated 8,359 companies with revenues exceeding NT$30.5 billion (US$1 billion), considering factors including energy management, carbon emissions, governance, and sustainability practices.
THSR has ranked in the top 5% of the Taiwan Stock Exchange's corporate governance evaluation for seven consecutive years since 2018.
In October, the company supported the International High-Speed Rail Association in hosting a conference in Taiwan. Around 200 high-speed rail operators from 12 countries gathered to discuss the development of the rail industry.
In 2023, THSR completed a new train procurement project, introducing more energy-efficient models. That same year, it signed a memorandum of understanding with Central Japan Railway Company to enhance collaboration in the rail industry.
Jeng added that THSR is the most eco-friendly transportation in Taiwan. It will align its mid-to-long-term plan with ESG trends to ensure a safe and comfortable passenger experience.
