TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The annual Yangmingshan Flower Festival launched Friday, marking the start of a beloved seasonal tradition.
The event, with a history spanning decades, will feature Yoshino cherry, Oshima cherry, Japanese cherry trees and more in full bloom. This year, a collaboration with Disney includes art installations inspired by princesses like Snow White and Cinderella, UDN reported.
Visitors can participate in a stamp-collecting activity across six venues to explore Yangmingshan's history and culture while earning exclusive gifts. For Valentine’s Day, the festival will host a special event with local communities and universities, featuring illuminated wisteria trellises for a romantic nighttime experience, per undiscovered Taipei.
Traffic control measures will be in place from Friday to March 16, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekends and holidays, to ensure smooth traffic flow. Private vehicles, including passenger and cargo cars, will be restricted, with flexible adjustments based on traffic conditions.
Shilin Police Department encourages visitors to use public transportation to avoid traffic congestion and parking issues. Authorities also remind drivers to avoid fatigue, follow traffic regulations, and cooperate with police and volunteer officers for a safe and enjoyable festival experience.
Yangmingshan National Park boasts numerous scenic spots and six cherry blossom varieties that bloom from January through March. This extended season makes the cherry blossom viewing in Yangmingshan one of Taiwan’s most anticipated floral events, according to Housefeel.
The park offers year-round floral displays, with over 300 camellia varieties blooming in January. Calla lilies follow from January to May, peaking in March and April, while hydrangeas take center stage in May and June. Daylilies bloom in August and September, providing a golden landscape closer to home, and silvergrass sways from October through December, creating a stunning finale at sites like Lengshuikeng and Qingtiangang.
