TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇) and her partner Jelena Ostapenko defeated second-seeded duo Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe in the Australian Open women’s doubles on Friday.
With the victory, the duo will face top-seeded team Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend in the final on Sunday, per CNA. Hsieh is just one victory away from winning back-to-back championships.
Despite losing their first two games, Hsieh and Ostapenko found their rhythm, fending off three break points and winning the tiebreak 7-3 to claim the first set 7-6. Although they dropped the second set 3-6, Hsieh and Ostapenko adjusted in the third set.
They broke the serve in the second game and maintained control to secure victory at 6-3.
Last year, Hsieh swept the women’s doubles and mixed doubles titles, setting a 24-year record in Australian Open history, per Liberty Times. She has nine Grand Slam doubles titles under her belt.
