TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The new director of the Alishan National Scenic Area wants to see more visitors from overseas heading for the mountainous region in Chiayi County.
Huang Shih-fang (黃勢芳) took office Friday, after a stint as head of Matsu National Scenic Area, per CNA. Previously, he served as deputy chief of the Alishan’s popular forest railway. Huang is also familiar with engineering and international tourism marketing.
Huang noted the New York Times recently named Alishan as one of the world’s 52 top travel destinations. The accolade would help him promote the area to international tourists, he said.
Speaking just before the Lunar New Year holiday, the new director pledged to upgrade the quality of visitor service points inside Alishan, one of Taiwan’s most popular travel destinations.
The scenic area would also work more closely with local businesses, Huang said, promising talks to resolve problems and cooperation. Government departments and local authorities would be invited to discuss how to turn Alishan into a showcase of sustainable tourism.
Alishan is popular for its forest railway, sunrises in the clouds, tea plantations, and the villages of the Indigenous Tsou population.
