TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The first batch of one-year conscripts has completed their mandatory military service, with a structured training regimen aimed at boosting Taiwan's combat readiness.
The soldiers underwent four progressive training phases: enlistment, garrison training, base training, and joint exercises. This framework was designed to equip them with essential combat skills for defense operations and civil preparedness, according to CNA.
Conscripts were deployed to units including the Army's 21st Artillery Command, 333rd Mechanized Infantry Brigade, and 586th Armored Brigade. Training focused on operations like beachhead fire suppression and counterattacks.
Some troops participated in live-fire exercises, handling weapons such as 40mm grenade launchers, 66mm rockets, and T85 grenade launchers. Others were trained in basic drone operations and engagement procedures for man-portable Stinger missiles.
The conscripts also took part in key military drills, including the Changtai No. 19 and Han Kuang No. 40 exercises. These simulated combat scenarios were designed to enhance their readiness for real-world defense situations.
The soldiers began their service in January 2024, marking the first group to complete the reinstated one-year conscription program.
