TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taoyuan International Airport reported an estimated 157,000 inbound, outbound, and transit passengers on Saturday, marking the highest single-day volume since the COVID-19 pandemic and the first day of the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday.
Passenger traffic began surging at 6 a.m., prompting airport authorities to advise travelers to arrive at least three hours before their flights to ensure sufficient time for boarding, per LTN.
To accommodate the holiday rush, the airport coordinated with Taoyuan Metro to add extra trains and expanded public transportation options, including additional buses and taxis. Authorities also urged travelers to use public transport and factor in extended travel times to the airport.
The Ministry of the Interior (MOI) reminded travelers to follow regulations to expedite security checks. Prohibited items include knives, scissors, pepper spray, and windproof lighters. Standard cigarette lighters are allowed but must be carried on the body in a clothing pocket rather than in hand luggage.
Power banks are only permitted in carry-on luggage and are strictly prohibited in checked luggage. Liquids must be discarded before entering restricted areas. Travelers should remove cellphones, laptops, tablets, and other electronic devices for separate scanning, along with jackets, belts, hats, and any items in their pockets.
