TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The military will begin receiving deliveries of the domestically developed T112 heavy sniper rifles by the end of June.
Originally scheduled for delivery last year, the rifles faced delays due to material procurement issues, according to CNA. The production timeline was revised to accommodate these setbacks.
The Legislative Yuan’s Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee raised concerns about production delays for both light and heavy sniper rifles during its review of the 2024 defense budget. In response, the Ministry of National Defense was tasked with providing a report on the matter.
Weighing approximately 12 kilograms, the T112 features a bolt-action mechanism and a 10-round magazine. It boasts an effective range of 2,000 meters, making it suitable for long-range precision targeting.
The Armaments Bureau highlighted that the T112 is the first high-precision heavy weapon system developed domestically by its 205th Factory. Previously, such rifles were procured externally due to the exacting precision requirements for sniper rifle barrels and the limited demand from the military.
To establish domestic production capabilities, the 205th Factory developed critical components, including the rifle body, stock, barrel, and firing mechanism. This initiative represents a significant milestone in Taiwan’s defense manufacturing sector.
