Update 3:30 p.m. Monday
Full two-way service has resumed on both the east and west lines, Taiwan Railway announced around 1 p.m. Monday.
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — An overhead line explosion on the Taiwan Railway Tainan section early Monday caused a complete suspension of train services between Shanhua and Xinshi.
Strong winds are believed to have dislodged cables under the Dacheng Road overpass in Shanhua. Northbound and southbound train services were temporarily suspended between the two stations, per CNA.
Shuttle buses were deployed to assist affected passengers. TRC mobilized an emergency response team to dispatch personnel to repair the damage and clear obstacles on the tracks, LTN reported.
Taiwan Railway announced by 10:19 a.m. that the west track was partially restored for single-track, bidirectional operation to prevent a full disruption of north-south travel. Repairs on the east track are ongoing, with an estimated repair time of about 3.5 hours.
Passengers are advised to check the latest train updates via the TRC website, the 24-hour service hotline at 02-2191-0096 or 0800-765-888, or nearby stations before traveling.
Officials said they would investigate the cause and pursue compensation for damages.
