TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration issued a cold surge advisory from Monday to Tuesday night, with 20 counties and cities on the list.
The bureau issued orange (very cold) alerts for the following places, that may see temperatures below 6 C: New Taipei City, Keelung City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung City, Nantou County, Yilan County, per CNA. Taipei City, Hsinchu City, and Hualien County may experience persistent temperatures around or below 10 C.
Yellow (cold) alerts were issued for Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, Taitung County, and Kinmen County. Temperatures in these areas are also likely to fall below 10 C.
An orange alert is issued when the temperature is below 6 C at ground level, or below 10 C with ground temperatures under 12 C for 24 consecutive hours. A yellow alert is issued when the minimum temperature falls below 10 C at ground level.
The bureau reminded the public to keep warm and avoid staying outside for too long. It cautioned ice build-up for those living in the mountains.
Regarding Tuesday's weather, the bureau said that despite cold conditions, most areas will be partly cloudy to sunny, with only sporadic brief showers in the eastern and southeastern regions.
