TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — E Ink introduced its 100% renewable e-paper displays for bus stops on Wednesday.
E-paper, or intelligent paper, uses small, ink-filled capsules to create images. The technology mimics normal ink on paper to produce a low-power, paper-like display.
E Ink said its solar-powered bus stop displays operate independently of the power grid, per CNA. In 2022, it was the first display technology to receive certification from DarkSky International, offering superior energy savings compared to LCD screens.
With over 30,000 units installed globally, E Ink said these displays have become essential infrastructure for net-zero policies globally, expanding into European and Japanese markets. Domestically, they have been deployed in cities including Taipei, Tainan, and Kaohsiung.
Regarding renewable energy goals, E Ink said it already achieved RE100, or 100% renewable energy usage, for its sites outside Taiwan. Domestically, its Hsinchu and Linkou plants have surpassed 20% renewable energy adoption, with further increases planned.
Given its fast progress, E Ink said it has raised its 2025 goal to RE65, or 65% renewable energy usage, and aims to achieve RE100 across all sites.
