TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A double-decker tour bus was involved in a traffic accident Thursday afternoon in Taipei's Xinyi District, leaving a 22-year-old female scooter passenger with a fractured left leg, authorities reported.
The victim was conscious at the scene and transported to Taipei Medical University Hospital for treatment. The bus operator said they are monitoring the situation and will follow up according to insurance regulations, per CNA.
According to the Taipei City Police Department, initial investigations revealed that a scooter traveling westbound in the third lane of Zhongxiao East Road collided with the right side of the double-decker tour bus in the second lane. The collision caused the scooter to crash into the left rear of another scooter ahead in the same lane.
Police confirmed the westbound scooter driver sustained minor injuries, while the passenger suffered a severe leg fracture. Breathalyzer tests on all drivers showed no signs of drunk driving, and all licenses were confirmed as valid.
The crash caused varying degrees of damage to the three vehicles involved. However, all 25 passengers aboard the tour bus were unharmed and were evacuated safely by the bus driver.
Authorities will determine fault and take appropriate action as per regulations.
