TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taipei City Department of Health reported Friday that seven people were sent to the hospital after dining at Bei-Yun Roasted Meat in Nangang District.
The department said in a press release that the diners are suspected to have become infected with food poisoning after eating at the restaurant on Tuesday, per CNA.
In accordance with the Good Hygiene Practices, the department found several health issues during an inspection. This included greasy kitchen floors and cutting boards on the floor in addition to dirty exhaust fans, draining outlets, and refrigerators.
Lin Kuan-jen (林冠蓁), head of the department’s food and drug division, said the restaurant had been ordered to stop serving since Friday at lunchtime, per UDN.
To resume business, the restaurant must ensure staff complete four hours of hygiene training and submit an improvement plan to the department for approval. The restaurant has been ordered to correct these deficiencies by Monday.
Failure to comply will result in fines of NT$60,000 (US$1,800) to NT$200 million under Articles 8 and 44 of the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation.
Inspectors collected two samples from staff and four on-site samples. If food poisoning is confirmed, additional fines ranging from NT$60,000 to NT$200 million will be imposed under Articles 15 and 44 of the same law.
