TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taoyuan Airport Mass Rapid Transit trains will start operating from Taipei Rail Station at 5:30 a.m. beginning Monday.
The new express service will continue for three months as an experiment, according to Taoyuan Metro Corporation. The extra trains target passengers who book an early flight out of the country, per CNA.
During the Lunar New Year holidays, an average of 110 passengers per day boarded the extra 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. trains from Taipei Rail Station. The figures proved there was a demand for early morning services to the airport, the company said.
To make things easier for travelers, the airport MRT’s Taipei Station would also open its doors to the public from 5 a.m. each morning. The airport’s Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 stations will open at 5:30 a.m.
Due to the early hour, trains will reduce their speed while passing by some densely populated areas. Once the three-month trial period nears its end, Taoyuan Metro will evaluate the results of the early services and decide whether to continue the program.
