TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan's healthcare system was ranked first in the world in Numbeo's annual online survey.
Under the online database's Health Care Index by Country 2025, Taiwan scored 86.5 out of 100, a slight rise from 86 last year.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out on X that this is the seventh consecutive year Taiwan has taken the top spot on the index. “Our world-class medical expertise continues to serve both our democratic society and friends worldwide,” said MOFA adding that Taiwan is “proud to share our healthcare excellence with all.”
In second place was South Korea with a score of 82.8 and Japan in third with 80. The Netherlands was fourth at 79.3, followed by Denmark at 78.4, Austria at 77.9, France at 77.7, Finland at 77.5, Thailand at 77.5, and Spain at 77.3, rounding out the top 10.
Under the Health Care Exp Index, Taiwan also took the top spot at 159.2. The second through seventh spots remained the same as the overall Health Care Index, but Spain placed eighth with a score of 141.9, pushing Finland and Thailand down to ninth and tenth.
China came in 32nd with a Health Care Index score of 68.7, and the country ranked 35th for its Health Care Exp Index rating of 123.7. According to Numbeo, the rankings are based on surveys from website visitors tasked with rating the quality of health care in their countries.
Its Health Care Index category is a rating of the "overall quality of the healthcare system, including factors such as healthcare professionals, equipment, staff, doctors, and costs." The Health Care Exp Index emphasizes the positive aspects of a healthcare system more significantly "through an exponential increase while also emphasizing the native aspects more significantly.”
