TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake occurred in southwest Taiwan at 12:46 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
The CWA said its epicenter was 39 km east-southeast of Chiayi County Hall with a 7.3 km focal depth. Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7 to gauge the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
The quake’s intensity registered a 4 in Chiayi County, Tainan, and Chiayi. An intensity level of 3 was reported in Kaohsiung, Yunlin County, Nantou County, Hualien County, Changhua County, Taichung, and Penghu County.
A level 2 intensity was recorded in Taitung County and Miaoli County. An intensity level of 1 was measured in Pingtung County, Yilan County, and Hsinchu County.
