TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – National Development Council Minister Liu Chin-ching (劉鏡清) will attend the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company board meeting in the US on Feb. 10, reports said Saturday.
The National Development Fund owns 6.38% of the shares in the tech company, giving it one seat on the 10-member board, per CNA. In 1986, the fund invested NT$497 million (US$15.13 million) in TSMC.
Liu set off Saturday but said he would return to Taiwan immediately after the meeting to attend the new Legislative Yuan session. The board is expected to discuss progress on the company’s Arizona fabs, where it recently started producing 4 nm chips. Two more factories are planned for the site near Phoenix.
Another topic could be alleged plans by President Donald Trump to impose tariffs of 25% - 100% on semiconductors from Taiwan. A deputy economics minister was expected to travel to Washington, D.C. to try and persuade the administration not to go ahead with the plans.
